What Does a Boiler Service Include?
A qualified Gas Safe engineer will:
- Check the flue and ventilation
- Inspect the heat exchanger for cracks or corrosion
- Test the ignition system and burner
- Check controls and safety devices
- Clean the main components
- Issue a service record
The whole process takes around 45–60 minutes.
Why It Matters
Safety first. A faulty boiler can produce carbon monoxide — an odourless, colourless gas that can be fatal. An annual service identifies issues before they become dangerous.
Efficiency. A well-maintained boiler uses less gas to produce the same heat. That means lower energy bills.
Warranty. Most boiler manufacturers require an annual service to keep the warranty valid. Skip it and you may void your cover.
Fewer breakdowns. Small issues — a worn seal, a dirty sensor — are caught early before they cause a full breakdown in the middle of winter.
When Should I Book?
The best time is late summer or early autumn, before the heating season begins. Engineers are less busy and you’ll have the work done before you need the heating most.
